I'm New Here

Hello Friends,

Thank you for visiting my blog. Sorry it has taken me so long to finally write, but it is only now that I am really becoming settled and can find a few moments here and there. I hope to post as often as possible and I also hope to make it interesting. Please check back often!

I would like to tell you a bit about myself. My name is Lauren Isabella and I was born to Christina and Larry on December 14, 2004. I was born at 6:43 pm weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces, at Burnaby General Hospital. For the first two months of my life, I rarely slept and had a really tough time figuring out the difference between night and day and I was just all out of sorts. It was difficult adjusting to the whole night and day thing, nevermind being so out in the open and exposed and no longer protected in the dark, sheltered surroundings I was used to. I also had really bad gas. Now that a few months have past, I feel much more comforable, aside from the fact that I recently started growing teeth. My gums are always itchy and painful and I constantly drool and have to ram plastic objects in my mouth just to get some temporary relief. Cheeks, chins, shoulders and fabric also work well. I was born with "torticollis" which means I had a "mass" in my neck, like a knot, which makes one side of my neck very painful to move, so of course I have favoured the other side and wasn't using the right side of my neck muscles at all. Don't laugh, but "torticollis" is latin for "turtle head", because babies such as myself who have it, tilt their heads like turtles do. I had to start physiotherapy because my head was always tilting and gravity was making it so my face was uneven. I have been going since I was nine days old, and while its a long process, things are balancing out more now and I have gained head control and neck control. I have many excercises that I must do daily with my mommy to make sure my neck gains the strength it needs. Anyway, things are going well with that and aside from the fact that I only sleep with my head facing my left side and have developed a flat spot, I can hold my head up pretty good. So, about the flat spot, I hear its pretty normal but my mommy is really worried about me having to wear a helmut like that poor little 10 month old boy that was in the paper the other day who has to wear that ugly thing for 23.5 hours a day, so when she thinks I am fully asleep, my mommy comes and adjusts my head so I am facing the other way, but little does she know that when she leaves the room, I just move it back.

Enough about that. I thought I would tell you about the people in my life who are closest to me. I am sure I will be mentioning them regularly in this blog, so I would like to let you know who they are.

These are all my grandparents. Nonno is Italian for Grandpa, Nonna is Italian for Grandma, and Bis-Nonna is Italian for Great Grandma. My grandparents on daddy's side are Nana and Poppa:

This is my Zio (Italian for Uncle) Derek. We have fun together and like to watch the same sort of tv shows and movies.

Hope you check back often and thanks for reading!
